October 26, 2010 our good friend Kevin Geyer was murdered while walking home from the port authority park and ride. Kevin had been visiting his mother and had just gotten off of the bus. It was pouring rain that evening and the port authority parking lot had no cameras at this point. As far as we can tell he was followed from the bus to the corner of Center and Woodworth when an unidentified individual attempted to rob him and fired a single shot into kevins back killing him.

Kevin was a extremely helpfull young man who was well known and well liked by everyone in the neighborhood. He did not deserve to be murdered and his death will not be forgotten.

In the days following his death we noticed how overgrown this corner of the neighborhood was. The bushes around this corner were 7-8' tall and made it impossible for a pedestrian on the sidewalk to see anything around the corner. My girlfriend, myself and a bunch of our neighbors went down and dug up all of the bushes. It ended up turning into an event with the kids helping us dig and the older adults brought their lawnchairs down just to show support. One of the neighbors got the idea to make a peace sign out of bricks which helped name it "The Peace Garden".

Last fall we planted as many bulbs as we could get our hands on and will be adding more this year. Durring the summer months we planted annuals and hope someone will keep this up long after we are gone. It was helpfull to build a memorial and the people who live in sight of the corner were just happy to see some sort of a positive change to the sight. It was important to us that the corner be a beautiful positive symbol of peace and not look like a graveyard. The peace sign is a universal symbol and does not offend anyone.

It has almost been a year since his death and to this day there have been no leads in the case. If you have any information reguarding the murder of Kevin Geyer please contact the Allegheny County Police Homicide Division or Wilkinsburg Police Department.
