4/2/11 Larimer Vision to Action Primary Planning Team Mtg

[I walked in in the middle of it, thinking that I was in the room for the Economic Dev./Jobs group—they were meeting for the first time at the ECCO Center, actually. Poor dumb me. They're in the middle of their meeting when I get there, but I get a detailed & interesting look at what the planning process for really-developed Transition activities look like.]

Karriem: 2 hr meetings once a month seems reasonable

Andrea: …1hr is kinda pushing it

Tracy: Respecting people's time very much—seeing that there's a very easy way to plug in; COMMENTARY and places to put it... casting a wider net for info. Specific targeted outcome—gotta be focused—gotta have trust to be focused and pull together.

Donna: What's the thing you wanna pull out of all this?

JW: Outcomes? What'll they be?

Kindergarten: [Tracy:] “I wanna stay in my home” was one.

Tracy: Phase 1 is WHAT... Phase 2 is HOW...

[Seems like the reason why a lot of this takes so long is cause of one simple thing: they got so many people to interface with. thought 2: communicating what needs to be communicated—like toolkits for meetings: what needs to be at each?]

Tracy: Toolkits! What do we need to have at each meeting?

  • Agendas important: dropbox utilized;

  • Communications...

Karriem: [tangent] What's the role of each of these groups? We'll be asked that. We should specify.

Tracy: we're driving the content. Making sure they REALIZE the opportunities here. Guiding the PROCESS... NOT the CONTENT.

Karriem: This is what we're about: DRIVING US THERE; we need a CONCENTRATED STATEMENT of PURPOSE

Nate: How do you SAY what's most important in a planning process. Test phrases:

  • Big goal in mind: MIXED INCOME SUSTAINABLE, GREEN COMMUNITY.

  • What are the METRICS OF SUCCESS FOR THAT GOAL?

    • How do we even know? %'s of incomes? of employment? Test scores in school?

    • [David:] What does “green” mean? “Sustainable”?

    • Also: who participated? “all community members?” “Gotta have the right experts

  • THAT'S what Phase 1 is: HOW DO WE KNOW WE SUCCEEDED?

    • Decisions & expertise from the community...

  • [David, w/mild dissent:] Don't necessarily believe that the community members have to be involved in everything here. how do we make sure these are realistic according to the market?

  • [Little bit of back and forth here, final decision? Not sure.]

Communications:

Tracy: Giant board in lobby tracking progression.

[some mechanics for that]

Tracy: Action items!

[At this point they figure out Action Items and then disband to go other places. Such as the AVA Lounge
