Stranger in a Strange Land

I finished Stranger in a Strange Land the 15th of September.  What I remembered from reading it forty plus years ago was meager: only the phrases “Water, brother.  May you never thirst,” the all-encompassing word grok, and the Fair Witness.  I forgot the characters.  I think I vaguely remembered the sexual freeing up that accompanied the spiritual family formation.  I actually had googled “Fair Witness” because I really am so tired of lies and cover-ups, and wanted to re-read its context.  I…See More

Keeping warm, conserving energy costs in winter and emergency tips from Rosemary McMullen

 

(1) If you don't have storm windows, get the plastic thermo wrap kits and start putting them in place on windows you won't be keeping open much longer.  Once you turn on the heat, don't open any windows.  I usually try to get through October without artificial heat, but sometimes yield and turn it on before Nov. 1.
