Outside the fence surrounding the garden, they dig up the soil in semi-random fashion so as to secure in place chicken wire (to keep out groundhogs and other small burrowing animals). They also plant flower bulbs all around, and mulch a bit. Many dangerous objects in the overgrown weeds here: tripped many times.
