Gift Circles Ripple Out!

Transition Pittsburgh wants all gift givers and gift receivers to create a Gift Circle ripple effect in our neighborhoods as Phase Two.  (Phase One was successfully establishing Gift Circles in Peaceburgh, thanks largely to the loving enthusiasm and follow-through of Kevin May.)  You all are needed as ripplers.  We had many faithful scribes, and we will contact all those who have attended Gift Circles to invite them to join this on-line group. Please spread the word and share your ideas and comments. Thanks.  Rosemary

How do I start a gift circle for my group? 2 Replies

Hi everyone, I love the idea of a gift circle(I have never been a part of one though).  I am an organizer for GreenPittsburgh, a Meet Up group which is really a social place for like minded people to…Continue

There is a big teach-in November 20 being organized by Education WG.  They welcome ideas. Maybe Carolyn, Justin and others should join Education WG.  There is a google group and a Facebook group (via OccupyPittsburgh.org).  I will not be here that day -- so I urge others to get into the mix of OPGH WGs.

There is no quiet intimate meeting space at the camp and few chairs.  That could change at some point. Meanwhile take advantage of the teach-in at the USSteelworkers Building on Sunday the 20th. We need to find spaces downtown and I hope to have all kinds of meet-ups there:  Gift Circles, Truth Circles (see Phil Osophical's video on Truth Circles) and even Heart and Soul meetings near the camp.

OccupyPGH seems ready for a Gift Circle. Been talking to Ryan Kelley and Carolyn Eliot about that, myself. Seems very possible, very easily put in motion. Just have to get ahold of one of them again.

Gift Circle at Pitt was pretty darn nice. Pitching it as easily-started, potentially spontaneous little tool for parties and gatherings--especially to the Free the Planet college folks--seemed like it helped. I hope to have indirectly caused a Circle at a Pitt frat party one of these days.

This article talks about bringing many communication models into the Occupy movement, including Gift Circles, Heart meetings, and Open Space Tech.

Amanda, please come to the next Gift Circle offered from this core group.  The process is not complex, but you really should experience it to understand.  Also there are some kinks that are still being worked out.  I am glad you joined this group so you will hear the latest as soon as it's out.  Probably another circle mid-October.

I was forwarded an invitation to Susan's current project "Furnish for Free" near the East End Food Co-Op.  Donate today September 30-- pick up tomorrow October 1.  See the full post on the Transition Home Page List of blogs.  Here's an op to check out Who's Your Brother as well as get something useful and maybe even beautiful for your home--and of course support Susan.

Jared unfortunately won't be able to complete the assignment I gave him--may just go ahead and do a quick thing myself based off what he prepared for me...

Awesome Justin.  Very excited for another gift circle.  I will be there and would be happy to help in anyway I can.  Do you plan to create a facebook event?  It seems to have helped spread the word in circles past.

Also, please let me (and Rosemary and whomever else is interested) know when the gift circle logo has been designed so we can take a look.  I am uber-excited about the logo- another marketing tool to gather folks.  Brilliant.

To be kept in mind, Rosemary--sounds delicious and warm.

I myself will be launching a Gift Circle over at FUMC one week from today, i.e. Monday the 26th at 6:00. Looking for one or two volunteer facilitators to help me out in the case that we're getting a large group--if you're coming and you've already been to a gift circle, consider stepping up, yo!

This week I will host a Gift Circle and Heart and Soul dinner Thursday Sept 22 starting around 6 pm at my home in Bloomfield. I am not holding it Wednesday because that's the International Day of Peace with many evening activities.

I will have a double CSA this week so expect a lot of peppers, tomatoes, beets, chard, basil which we can use then and there and also give away....Chad said he would bring a salad and I will make two pasta sauces -- one tomato and one pesto.  We can cook the pasta when everyone gets here.  Let's stick with a fresh fruit dessert too as long as there are local fruits available.  Bring something fresh, local, organic if you can.  Wine, bread and butter are always welcome.

Please RSVP to rosemary_mcmullen@yahoo.com or 412 780 4752
