Movie Screening Group

We show free movies in your venue of choice (which may or may not be your living room).  We are working on building up a library of relevant films, along with screening licenses, so that anyone associated with TransitionPGH (particularly our neighborhood-level groups) can use them!

Hi Katherine, still trying to get coordinated to these groups; just seeing your comments and questions.  My friend from LR sangha is Marti Cullens. Here email is : cullens99@gmail.com.  She lives in Wilkensburg.

Re BALLE, I did see the local connection and will reach out to Jessica.  Thanks!

Hi again George, I looked up BALLE organization and it looks like there might be a group much closer than Philadelphia, although this information was posted about a year ago: Fayette, Green Washington, Westmoreland and Somerset Counties, PA jessicas@faypenn.org
I like your ideas for this event -- you might get some support also at the trasitionpgh "Rebuilding economies" group

Hi George, We met at the screening of HOME. Your friend from Laughing Rivers sangha announced a movie screening on July 21 -- some of us were interested in attending but could not find details on the LR website -- could you put me in touch with her? and/or post the showing here? Thanks, Catherine

The film is 65 minutes long and promotes localization vs globalization.  I could see adding at least another 60 minutes for a good discussion panel with Q&A.  The panel would offer resources - ala the Transition Towns materials, but also pull in  the local businesss community.  Sustainable Pittsburgh is not oriented toward this vision as much as the BALLE organization (www.livingeconomies.org) but perhaps with planning even representatives from that model could be available (out of Philly - I have friends there).  Another aspect should be a discussion on the relationships of the Culture of Happiness, and the economics, as the film essentially opens with this. That is perhaps a Buddhist discussion or even the tools from the Pachama Alliance for Awakening the Dreamer.

Yes, to Economics of Happiness. It's a good point you raise about a discussion panel -- do you have ideas for that?

Hello everyone. Just joining this group. I have explored - as it seems others have = bringing the Economics of Happiness here to Pittsburgh. There is the $100 front cost - plus sharing 50% of whatever donations or ticket costs are raised -  but having viewed the entire film, the biggest issue I see is creating a strong resource panel discussion as part of a viewing event. Like An Inconvenient Truth, the film begs for the question, "What can I do now that I have seen this?" Is anyone here still interested in the idea of bringing the film here?  I am committed to pulling this together. I see Transition Pittsburgh, the Buddhist community, perhaps the Pachama Alliance and others coming together on it.

I have a copy of "The War on Kids", which is about the insanity of our school system. I would be happy to share it some evening.
