Hello Movie Screening Group!

One of the major things I’d like to see happen with TransitionPGH this summer is to have a series of movie nights in different neighborhoods to give interested folks an opportunity to meet others in their communities and maybe start some new Transition groups, or catalyze connections with existing community orgs. I’d like to show the new Transition 2.0 (which we’re in!), and do some donations to raise money for screening fees. What neighborhoods would you like to see an event like this happen in? My top three are Lawrenceville, Greenfield, and Homestead.

Anyone else interested in helping plan a few of these? That’s going to involve getting a projector/speakers, room reservation, and a lot of advertising to diverse groups for each event, plus some discussion management afterwards (fun!).

I might be able to help with advertising. I dont know much about av equipment so I dont think I could help with that.

I live in Uptown, so I'll toss that in the hat for possible neighborhoods to show a movie in. The old Paramount screening place is here, and I think we could use that for pretty cheap. I'd also be happy to help with discussion management at some of the screenings.

Could you check on the availability of the Paramount? It seems to be under construction by some reports. Also, how about the week of the 9th-13th of July as a target week?

I'd love to help with Greenfield, where I live. I'll only be here in June and maybe first week or two of July and may have some scheduling limitations. But a Greenfield showing would be great. I don't have equipment except a good laptop. Can help with getting the word out.

How about the 13th-14th of June? Mark’s got a projector and screen and basic speakers. In terms of locations, Connect Greenfield seems like the right organization to ask, and they seem to do a lot of events at the local Presbyterian Church. Is this the best spot?

Thanks for the responses! Uptown sounds like a great addition. Hopefully the places that we’d get to show the movie would have the projector built in - it’s just something to think about.

I’ll preorder a copy of the movie after finding out about permission costs for multiple screenings (and collect donations at each event). We’ll need to identify a location and cost for each neighborhood - the Paramount building sounds good (though it might be under construction this summer). I don’t know about places in Greenfield or Lawrenceville, but they seem like really good neighborhoods to have this kind of event in - Catherine, do you have suggestions?

In terms of advertising, if anyone decides they have some extra time and wants to make a general flyer that we could customize for each event, it’s never to early to have that made, or at least started.
