Hi all.  This is a report from last night's (June 14) coalescence at Kiva Han.  There was a very good turnout -- about 20.  This may be one of the last gatherings of TPGH at Kiva Han, as big changes are afoot.

Announcements will follow the summary of the two main discussion topics which were:  The Future of Transition Pittsburgh  and the Rain Garden in Bloomfield.

Future of Transition Pittsburgh.  The three current initiatory group were present: Jeff Newman, Kevin May and Aaron Fraser.  Several people were concerned about Transition Pittsburgh's identity, efficiency and continuity in the midst of so many initiatives and so many channels for communication in the greater community.  In response to this concern, we decided that the third initatory group (who commit to meet regularly and carry the administration and management tasks for TPGH) would be forming soon.  The duties of this group include liaison with Transition USA, finances, website and other communication channels.  Sunday July 10 at Friendship Park (Bloomfield) anyone may join the discussion.  Jeff will invite all those who have taken T4T and Kevin and Aaron will also use their lists to announce this meeting.  Kevin, Aaron and Jeff began consolidating their lists and databases after the main coalescence ended around 9:15.

Rain Garden in Bloomfield

A new friend Amanda has been working with the city to create rain gardens in Bloomfield.  A necessary step is the removal of cobblestones, which has created a bureaucratic delay.  Amanda said planting most likely won't start until August. Aaron, also a Bloomfield resident, was enthusiastic about the possibility of making Bloomfield the first Transition Neighborhood.  One initiative discussed was to create a corps of people to assist elderly yard owners who want to create gardens.

Announcements:

Kevin's Ojibwa name is "Leading Cloud."  He will be going back to Penn State in August.  He urged everyone to assume the mantle of leadership.  But before he goes, Kevin has another initiative underway: he is compiling a complementary list of gardens/garden owners that need help and people who want to garden.

Aaron announced that Caroline Savery who is creating the film "Sus tenable: the Metamentary"  needs funds and will be giving a skill program on documentary film the first week of July.

Aaron also announced that Evolver Pgh's next spore the 2nd Thursday in July will be on re-skilling.  Send topics/skills you want to learn to Aaron.

Jeff Newman has a new initiative:  silk-screening used plain T-shirts with Transition logo and others as a fund-raiser. Shirts bought for a dollar or less can be resold for $10.  He also has a new business/warehouse site on Coral near Winebiddle St. across from the Waldorf School.

Michael Coe has invited everyone to a program on Children of Earth at First United Methodist Church Monday, June 27 at 7 pm.

"Building Change: A Convergence for Social Justice"" will be at the Heinz History Center October 13, 14 and 15.  This is a project of the Three Rivers Community Foundation.  Many Transition Pgh people will be presenting: Kevin and PGH crew, Jeff, Fred Brown, Rosemary McMullen, Margaret Baco.  Very low fees will enable everyone to attend and enjoy.  There will be a film festival, art show, and a wellness room to share and receive healing skills and resources. Save the dates!
