For the last 50 years, throw-away consumer culture has led citizens of industrialized societies to forget many of the basic survival skills that have sustained humans for generations. Today, the impending challenges of peak oil and climate change leave our communities susceptible to the shocks and instability of centrally distributed hierarchical systems for life support. Facing the prospect of a world with drastically reduced access to energy and material goods, a rising network of Transition Town advocates, urban homesteaders, permaculture activists, and DIY proponents are retraining communities to manage their own food, shelter, waste, transportation, health, clothing, and models of exchange.

Join the crew of Sust Enable: The Metamentary, Evolver Pittsburgh and Transition Pittsburgh as they combine forces to bring you the first of a series of Sustainability Jams!

Sust Enable is sponsoring this series of Reskilling Workshops to engage people with the idea that the meaning of the word 'sustainable' rests in their hearts, minds and hands. When we learn a new skill, we empower ourselves to take our lives more in our own hands.

Our first Sustainability Jam will focus on... jam! Luke Ohlson will teach how to make a delicious strawberry jam. While we have some jars out, Caroline Savery will give a workshop on making sauerkraut!

We will follow the workshop with a discussion on future classes, sustainability, and building a community of change and learning in Pittsburgh.

There is no cost to attend, but PLEASE bring one or two mason jars and consider a donation to those offering supplies.
